Seven Gables Extends its Community Outreach During the Holiday Season

Making a difference in our communities. That’s not only one of Seven Gables’ “Core Values,” but a mantra that’s become a way of life for us and keeps the familial environment around here so tight knit. In addition to our ongoing partnership with Orangewood Children’s Foundation, our company has dedicated the past 15 years to supporting the Salvation Army with their holiday canned food drives and Angel Tree program. And the commitment has always been a mutually rewarding one.

Recognizing that food banks across the county, the state and the nation for that matter are now facing record shortages, Seven Gables and its associates decided this year to reach out to the primary markets it serves and ask others in the community to support its efforts. Our collection started on November 11th and runs through December 12th. To date, there’s been a steady delivery of canned goods and other non-perishable food items to our offices in Anaheim Hills and Tustin. While the efforts thus far have been great, the need is even greater. So we’re hopeful that these next two weeks will bring a windfall of donations for the benefit of so many.

As a way of showing our appreciation for any and all food donations, Seven Gables is having a weekly drawing for a $50.00 Trader Joe’s Gift Card.

Winners over the past two weeks include OC residents Terry McCracken and Helga O’Brien. There are still two more drawings scheduled for this Friday, December 2nd and next Friday, December 9th, so if you are interested in entering to win a Trader Joe’s Gift Card, please stop by either of our offices with any canned or other non-perishable food donation and simply fill out an entry form.

Seven Gables’ North Orange County office is located at 5481 E. Santa Ana Canyon Road in Anaheim Hills, and our Central County location is at 12651 Newport Avenue in the city of Tustin.

Seven Gables Real Estate Honored at Spirit of Volunteerism Awards

OneOC (formerly Volunteer Center Orange County) – an organization dedicated to connecting volunteers in Orange County with a number of great causes and to helping nonprofits run more efficiently, hosted its 35th Annual Spirit of Volunteerism Awards Luncheon at the Disneyland Hotel on April 14th. Seven Gables Real Estate was among 446 “Giving as Living” Nominees (comprised of individuals, families, groups or corporate teams), recognized at the event that celebrates philanthropy and the people who make a tangible impact in the lives of families, seniors, children and communities in need.

As a partner of Orangewood Children’s Foundation, the entire Seven Gables organization is so appreciative and honored by the nomination. Kash Master (our OCF Ambassador), Lisa Greubel and I were there to represent Seven Gables among the more than 1,100 other guests in attendance.

Television personality Mindy Stearns, who was the Master of Ceremonies for the elegant luncheon, entertained the audience for the duration of the two hour event with her charm and personality. Known for her comedic talents, especially her spot on animal impersonations, Stearns reprised her famous “cock-a-doodle-doo” for the audience – a talent for which she was discovered in 1996 by Oprah Winfrey. After the Animal and Environment Honorees were announced, she told the audience that she wanted to speak on behalf of those whose voices could not be heard, and then it was literally as if we were on Disney’s Jungle Cruise with elephants, monkeys and wild birds surrounding us. Her good natured fun truly lent itself to all the “goodwill” that was being recognized that day.

As most of you know, Orangewood Children’s Foundation has become an important extension of the Seven Gables family. What we do every month for the benefit of the current and emancipated youth in OC brings forth a mixture of pride and humility for us; efforts that are small in scope, but big in the hearts and minds of Orangewood Children’s Foundation.

So to be recongnized for what we’re doing, which is impacting the lives of these special young adults (in two hours time just once a month) is both rewarding and gratifying.

Our next Orangewood event is scheduled for next Wednesday, April 27th starting at 9:30 a.m. We are looking for Easter Buffet food items and Hygiene supplies as well. If you would like to assist us in any way, please call Kash Master at 714.769.6125 or email him at kashm@sevengables.com.

A Year of Living Purposely

Reflecting upon this past year, we realize the strides we’ve made as an organization committed to making a difference in our profession by creating excellence at every opportunity and focusing on what matters most to our clients. As a company united on all fronts, we also rallied with determination to contribute more to our communities with particular emphasis on our Orangewood Children’s Foundation partnership. A gratifying year end culmination of those efforts took place yesterday at a celebratory New Year/New Beginnings event hosted by Seven Gables and held at OCF’s headquarters in Santa Ana.

For the past nine months, Seven Gables has participated in thoughtfully orchestrated collection and meal drives to benefit the teens in transition who rely upon OCF for support as they venture out into the world to make a life for themselves. Each month, a different supply drive was promoted either for gently used clothing items, non-perishable pantry goods, toiletries, school supplies or winter warm up gear. And on the last Wednesday of each month, a wonderful themed meal buffet was provided for these young adults.

Do you all remember those classic holiday movies that show Santa’s “behind the scenes” elves busily and joyfully readying toys for Christmas delivery? Well, that’s pretty much how each month through November played out. Our efforts were always appreciated, but since we often left before anyone arrived we never got to see the expressions on the faces of OCF’s beneficiaries or hear their gratitude-filled voices. Yesterday was a different story though, and one that made us all more the appreciative of the opportunity we have to share with others.

We set up a beautiful international buffet that included Mexican, Italian and Indian food with all the trimmings and a dessert station comprised of cupcakes, cookies, muffins and sweet breads. Attendees savored the feast before them; played Bingo for some great door prizes and excitedly awaited a Raffle for some fabulous prize packages. We also provided parting gifts for the attendees – gift bags that included fleece blankets, 2011 day planners, pens, cups and some other useful essentials. And every one of them could not have been more appreciative.

A very special thank you is in order for the following individuals whose time was given lovingly and willingly: Laura, Ryane and Colton Thorne, Lisa Greubel, Pam Huitt, Kash Master, Fred and Kathy Hinojos, our Marketing Team: Sandy Chang, Kristen Mitchell and Tommy Martinez (yes, I was there too), Vanessa Barerra, David and Nancy Smith, Marcia Saunders, Peggy DeSantis, Audrey Blatter, Shelly Paino, Kim Toth and Kathy Sliwinksi and everyone else who cooked, baked, purchased food supplies or simply showed up to lend a hand. We are grateful as ever for your continued support and generous hearts.

As for our friends at Orangewood Children’s Foundation . . . well, I have a stack of “thank yous”  . . . all expressing appreciation for the fun time, delicious food and gifts we provided. The pleasure was all ours.

May the New Year be filled with Abundant Blessings for You All!

Thanksgiving at Orangewood Children’s Foundation…

We all have our yearly traditions.
We have Easter egg hunts in place of the traditional meaning of Easter.
We have Trick or Treating for Halloween  instead of its traditional meaning.
We have Santa Claus instead of the traditional meaning of Christmas, though even that is widely disputed.

The only tradition that we seem to keep the same is Thanksgiving.  On this holiday, we tend to gather together with friends and loved ones and remember what we have, what we had and what we forgot to be thankful for.  We prepare a massive feast of food that often times sends us into a food coma and we either sit back and watch football or head off to the mall to start Christmas shopping.

That’s what MOST of us do….however there is a large group of people out there that do not have the ability to celebrate Thanksgiving as we do;  they don’t have the stable family life that we associate with when we gather together to celebrate.

We have been blessed to work with one such group this past year:  Orangewood Children’s Foundation.
We go there once a month and stock cabinets with food, clothes, and hygiene supplies.  We think outside of ourselves and we are thankful to them for allowing us to be a part of their ever growing organization. The need is great and we are always hopeful that the givers are greater! Take a look at what we’ve done in the past and see how you can participate in the future.

We are having a Thanksgiving Feast on November 17th and would love your participation.  What can you bring or what can you donate?  With the weather getting cooler, we are looking for blankets, lightly worn jackets and any cold weather accessories to donate to the kids. Won’t you consider being a part of this?

Thankfully Yours,
Amanda

Orangewood Children’s Foundation

Orangewood Children's Foundation

Once upon a time, we all were in school.  We all dreamed of lazy summer vacation days, and then we all dreamed of reuniting with our friends at school in order to get caught up over what happened, showing off new clothes…the smell of new pencils and notebooks…Ah…Youth!

Of course today’s youth are exposed to a different culture…they have iPads, iPods, laptops and DELL notebooks….

None-the-less, they still look forward to going back to school to be with their friends.

Not everyone could afford new school supplies…then or now….and this month we are looking to help out these youngsters by providing them with much needed school supplies to get their year off to a great start and this is where you come in!

What can you contribute to the Orangewood Foundation that will make an impact on these kids?  We’re not talking about buying laptops etc (though we’re not discouraging that either), just the basic necessities.  Target, Walmart even CVS are replete with aisles of school supplies…stroll the aisles and then contribute what you can.

New pencils, pens, notebooks etc…whatever your budget will allow.

Feel free to drop them off at our offices:

12651 Newport Avenue, Tustin or

5481 Santa Ana Canyon Road, Anaheim Hills

Look forward to seeing you there!

Orangewood Children’s Foundation was founded in 1981 and has embodied what it means to be Children’s Advocate.

We at Seven Gables are lucky to have found our way to them!  We look forward to our monthly visits to the Foundation on 17th Street in Santa Ana.

A flurry of activity always ensues just a few days beforehand.  Agents asking what they can contribute and if they can show up and help cook for the group of kids!

Junes festivities were no different!  The theme was “Emergency Preparedness Kits”.

Along with many staples, several people donated clothing items, as well as necessities in case of an emergency.

The food as always was great!  Seven Gables provided the mile long sandwiches and there was no shortage of sweets, salads and fruit to go around!

We thank everyone who participated to make it such a great success!

July’s theme is “Back to School Supplies” .  Want to donate?  Pick up some school supplies and drop them off at any one of our offices:

12651 Newport Avenue Tustin or 5481 Santa Ana Canyon Road, Anaheim Hills.

 Summer Success!

Pam always ready at the helm!Taking a pic of me taking his pic!

Do you remember what you were doing when Haiti happened?

Just to refresh your memory, on January 12, 2010 Haiti was struck by a horrible, magnitude 7.0 earthquake.  We all pulled together, some using Twitter to relay messages, offer help and support.

Remember the wonderful Telethon…worldwide…that George Clooney and others in the entertainment industry created?  They came together to raise funds and awareness.  What a great and inspiring event in our worlds history!

Time has moved on, and unfortunately, we’ve had many other catastrophes that have pulled our attention away from Haiti.

Fortunately there are those who remember and continue to move forward, looking to raise awareness and contribute…

Supplies are still being sent to Haiti and I recently heard a wonderful story about a local mom who wanted to help.  Want to meet her?

Her name is Sharlin Craig. She is a Mom, active member in her community and writes and records her own music.  She is also a patient music teacher.  Her daughter Anna attends Spurgeon Pre-School, a part of Spurgeon United Methodist Church.  I had the pleasure of interviewing her today.  I asked her what prompted her to get involved.

Me: What prompted you to get involved?

Sharlin: I felt horrible and asked the school if they were going to do anything to help, possibly send supply kits (they were going to send 60).  I decided that I needed to help and I asked permission to record a CD with the kids talking, singing songs and see what results we would get, sell them and then donate the proceeds to the Red Cross.  The conversations are all set with classical music in the background.

Me: What kind of research did you do to know what kind of questions to ask and how to go about putting it all together.

Sharlin: I was inspired by Bill Cosby and Art Linkletter and started watching their shows to get ideas of what kinds of questions to ask the kids.

She rallied her friends for help and support.  Her friend Emily Frye created the CD layout (which wasn’t easy being a 4 page jacket).  She looked to see the colors of Haiti were and chose the color of the flag.

Her friend Gina Chiaramonte did the photograph’s.

Michael Maughan did the CD mastering,  Sharlin worked on the production, engineering and music and Groove House records helped with the manufacturing and packaging it.

I asked her what her goal was.

Sharlin: We created 300 CD’s and I would like to get them all sold before the end of the school year (June 10th) and then donate all the proceeds to the Red Cross for relief for Haiti.  I would for all of the children to know what it’s like to make a difference.

Here are her own words:

A benefit CD for the Haiti earthquake survivors was just recorded by Spurgeon preschool children in Orange County and is now available for purchase at CDBaby . The CD is filled with silly, profound, touching, unpredictable comments and songs by the children accompanied by beautiful classical music. Kids of all ages are responding to this CD. They love hearing the children’s’ voices. It’s also a great gift for expectant moms, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and basically for anyone who loves children. You will find yourself laughing and crying at its sweetness. Even though the voices on the CD are of the children at Spurgeon, they could be the innocent, sweet voice of any child.

We were inspired to find a way to help the Haitian people. We decided that recording and selling a CD would be a wonderful way for the children, at a very young age, to learn about the importance of helping others and allow them to take an active part in the process.

All proceeds of the purchase of this CD will be donated to the Haitian earthquake survivors. We will donate all proceeds to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund. Many thanks to CDBaby and Groove House Records for donating a portion of their proceeds to this cause.

What a great and inspiring story!  Please help Sharlin and the children of Spurgeon Pre-school help those in Haiti.  Order here.

It never ceases to amaze me…when you call on your community to assist with a great cause, your community rallies, comes together, donates it’s time, money and resources…and this month’s Orangewood Children’s Foundation rally was beyond SPECTACULAR!

Pam, Kash and I arrived by 9:00 a.m and started unloading the cars! We had BAGS of donations from our Seven Gables Agents and the community.

Pam quickly started working on her Taquito casserole. I had never had that, but after she was done putting it all together…this is what it looked like:

This is the chicken with salsa verde recipe…

Next, Kash brought in a cake that his wife had made: Jell-O cake

Kash had to hold me back from stealing one!

Then my Friend Teresa showed up with the home made Spanish rice and Beans we had made the night before, and Pam continued to work on her beef version of her Taquito Casserole:

Is your mouth watering…

Gina brought her famous Mexican Beef Brisket and home made refried beans (Sorry…no photo…I was too busy drooling!)

Pam had also brought some oranges and apples and just to be balanced a HUGE bag of bite size chocolates!

Comparing apples to oranges!

Our agents donated home made goodies:

Thanks to everyone who donated their time and gave so unselfishly

Then came the rest of our troops: Lisa, Gina, Vanessa…all ready to take inventory!

Hi Lisa,

Just wanted to let you know that the youth devoured the food!  They also wrote you notes.  I’ll either drop if off or take a picture, but I wanted to let you know.  One youth loved the cake and I have to tell you, I wish you could have seen how happy they were.  Some even took it outside and ate on the grass.  They just love this!

Thank you!

Please Join Us For a Special …
Community Mixer

Seven Gables Real Estate will be hosting a spring mixer and you are invited!
We are contacting local North Orange County area business owners to see how their business has changed, how they can support their community and how their community support them!
We recognize the various challenges this economy has created and it is at times like these that we, as private business owners, can reach out to others that have supported us through the years.

Here are the event details:
Date: Thursday, April 29th
Time: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m.
Location: Seven Gables Real Estate
18210 Yorba Linda Blvd. Suite #404, Yorba Linda
Wine and Hors D’oeuvres will be served.

Over the next few weeks, the Seven Gables Real Estate team will be promoting this “free” event throughout the community. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and use it as a platform to promote your business and the valuable services you provide.

This will also be an opportunity to network with representatives from other local businesses including real estate agents from all local brokerages. As Community leaders, we find that Real Estate agents can be the conduit to relay the message of community needs and offer community support.

This is also a great way to find out about the special services and promotions other businesses have to offer.

We will include the name of your business in the formal invitation, so if you are interested in participating, please contact us with your commitment by April 23. You may also provide us with a prepared advertisement that can be distributed at the event. In addition, we invite you to donate items or service certificates for several drawings that will take place at various times throughout the evening.
All advertisements and donations for scheduled drawings will be picked up on or before April 23.
